“The SPAC Hospital Art Exhibition is dedicated to the premise that arts & culture can do for the healing spirit what treatment & technology can do for the ailing body. SPAC strives to present an exhibit that encourages thoughtful contemplation, offering patients, staff & visitors a chance to experience the healing soothing & inspiring powers of creative expression. It is the hope of SPAC to encourage both the participation & the interest in art and culture.”
Cathy Schulhauser, Melinda Neal & Nicola Furlong are doing a spectacular job promoting and organizing the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Art Exhibition. The team and the exhibit were featured in the October 18 issue of Seaside Magazine, ‘The Secret Healing Powers at Saanich Peninsula Hospital’. Kudos for getting some well deserved publicity!
Thanks to Cathy, the exhibit from May 2018 was freshened up by moving pieces around to different locations. There have been 6 pieces of art sold since May. The number of works being sold is increasing with every changeover which is both exciting and encouraging for both the organizers and the artists!
Photography is now being accepted– we welcome work in that medium. All works must meet SPAC hanging standards as always. Also new is the opportunity to hang artwork in the hospital’s Board room. In addition, there will be more SPAC artwork hung in the main entrance hallway, as the hospital clears out its permanent collection from that area, as well as in the Executive Hallway.
The number of SPAC artists bringing in work has increased, including the pieces under glass. If you have not entered work previously, you may want to consider this viable venue! The number of entries accepted is 2 oil or acrylic and 4 under glass. Artwork that has colours found in nature and with a healing theme is encouraged. Only art under glass may be hung in acute and extended care halls, due to Infection Control directives and the need to clean should an outbreak occur.
Spring changeover will be Tues May 7, 2019 ~ 11:00AM – 1:00PM
